چکیده

Small shelly fossils (SSFs) are highly informative of the ‘Cambrian explosion’. Their palaeobiodiversity has been documented from lower Cambrian deposits worldwide but it remains elusive in areas such as Iran, despite this region occupying a critical position on north-western Gondwana margin during early Cambrian. This new study SSFs northern Iran provides large dataset understudied area. We revise micropalaeontological signal Soltanieh Formation Alborz Mountains and introduce novel data overlying Barut Formations Mountains. The new, solid taxonomic stratigraphic SSF enable us to distinguish two successive microfaunal assemblages. first occurs is dominated by anabaritids (Anabarites trisulcatus, A. ex gr. tristichus, dalirense sp. nov., Cambrotubulus decurvatus) along with protoconodonts (Protohertzina anabarica P. unguliformis), maikhanellids (Maikhanella multa, Purella squamulosa sp.), Aetholicopalla adnata, indeterminate cones irregular tubes. second assemblage, Formation, diverse assemblage molluscs (Oelandiella korobkovi cap-shaped morphotypes). Siphogonuchitid sclerites also occur both assemblages characteristic Terreneuvian. Our enables assess sequence faunal change Ediacaran–Cambrian transition; contrast tube–sclerite–brachiopod succession presented literature, Iranian fauna changes one tubes sclerites, sclerites.

The cambrian fossil record and the origin of the phyla.

Whilst the "Cambrian Explosion" continues to attract much attention from a wide range of earth and life scientists, the detailed patterns exhibited by the terminal Proterozoic-Early Cambrian biotas remain unclear, for reasons of systematics, biostratigraphy and biogeography. In particular, recent changes in absolute dating of the Cambrian have refined the period of time that the fossil record m...

At the Origin of Animals: The Revolutionary Cambrian Fossil Record

The certain fossil record of animals begins around 540 million years ago, close to the base of the Cambrian Period. A series of extraordinary discoveries starting over 100 years ago with Walcott's discovery of the Burgess Shale has accelerated in the last thirty years or so with the description of exceptionally-preserved Cambrian fossils from around the world. Such deposits of "Burgess Shale Ty...

Are the most durable shelly taxa also the most common in the marine fossil record?

—This paper tests whether the most common fossil brachiopod, gastropod, and bivalve genera also have intrinsically more durable shells. Commonness was quantified using occurrence frequency of the 450 most frequently occurring genera of these groups in the Paleobiology Database (PBDB). Durability was scored for each taxon on the basis of shell size, thickness, reinforcement (ribs, folds, spines)...

Two new species and a new record of the genus Astragalus (Fabaceae) from NE Iran

During the study on the specimens of Astragalus sect. Ammodendron in the herbarium of Ferdowsi University of Mashhad (FUMH), based on the last and most recent sources, two new species, i.e. A. microfoliolatus sp. nova and A. rashed-mohasseli sp. nova were found and described. Morphological evidence confirmed that the belonging of these taxa to Astragalus sect. Ammodendron. The most important di...
